I am a freelance photographer based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, UK and have recently graduated with a Masters Degree in Photography from De Montfort University, Leicester.
Having been in the computer industry all my working life I was unexpectedly made redundant as part of a global downsizing in 2002. In some ways, it was the best thing that could have happened to me because it gave me the opportunity and time to expand my interest in photography and to embark on a course of study that, although at times stressful, has been very rewarding.
As you will see from my images, I have a passion for flower photography. Other photography interests tie in with my love of travel, in particular wildlife. One of the most satisfying aspects of a trip is being able to view and appreciate the photographs brought back home. Wildlife photography is always a challenge in terms of both distance and movement but when they turn out well it is great.
I love taking abstract and still life photography - creating quirky images indulges the humorous side of my personality.
My studies led me into other areas. My penultimate assignment was entitled "An Obsession with Paddling (Memories of Visits to my Aunt)" and comprise a set of close-up photos of people on the beach intermingled with snapshot photos relating to my trips to visit my aunt. For my Major Project I created a portfolio in the form of a "Memory Book" entitled "Mother's Days (A Photographic Study of Items Associated with my Mother)". It contains still life photos of items that remind me of my mother who died unexpectedly 20 years ago.
I have had photos published by Derbyshire Life magazine, Amateur Photography, Link-Up magazine for the University of Sheffield, the National Trust and regularly supply photography for the Chatsworth Horse Trials brochures.
